Ersin Dereligil

Ersin counsels universities, and domestic and international clients on all areas of intellectual property protection, valuations, commercialization, licensing, patent-oriented R&D and technological innovation.

He deals with many patent matters, including the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, FTO, infringements, validity, and IP valuations. He has been also involved in trademark counseling, particularly in the entertainment, textile, tobacco, chemistry, and food industries. He served as an expert before the Istanbul Specialized IP Courts, as well.

Ersin is presently providing IP consultancy services to foreign companies and associates, Turkish universities, innovative firms, and R&D departments and regularly give seminars on “understanding, protecting, managing and commercializing intellectual property rights”.

Latest Projects Attended

Ersin is among the advisory mentors at ULUKOZA of TÜBİTAK 1512 BIGG4Tech Program, a consortium of Bursa Uludağ University Technology Transfer Office, Sabanci University Inovent AS, Cukurova Technokent and Namik Kemal University Technopark, as official implementers for innovative and technology-based ventures, and has been mentoring and lecturing young participating Turkish entrepreneurs on IP protection and  commercialization, particularly for know-how, patents, design and trademarks at (2019-2022).

He lectured (with Murat Idal) Turkish entrepreneurs on patents and commercialization within the project headed by the Ankara Development Agency of Turkey (2018-2020).

He was one of the lecturers on the IP basics and commercialization to R&D departments and TTOs within the project headed by the Turkish Ministry of Technology, Science and Industry collaborated with LES Turkey and the TurkPatent (2016-2017).

He worked as a national senior expert on the establishment of a TechnoPark-TTO collaboration, drafting manuals for technology transfer within the scope of the European Union Technical Support Project (2016).

Ersin is one of the few certified Turkish trainers on the course “LES 100: Commercializing Technology through the Power of IP Licensing” under LES training modules.

Background and Experience

Ersin has a diploma in Chemical Engineering from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. His main technical experience is in the area of polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, food chemistry, and pharmaceuticals. In graduate studies, his research was the launch of an ethylene manufacturing plant. Before entering into the IP profession, he worked as a research scientist on thermodynamics at the university and as an expert on the evaluation of factories’ inventories of chemical wastes at a Governmental Institution in Istanbul within the scope of the Green Turkey Project.

He entered the patent and trademark profession in 1997. Three years later after the first launch of Turkish IP attorneyship as a profession, he passed the exams and qualified as both a patent attorney and a trademark attorney in 1999 and then a European patent attorney in 2001. He is one of the first Turkish attendees for courses on European IP Law at EPO International Academy in France. Before joining KORDINAT, he held numerous managing positions as head of the patent department, office manager, director of foreign affairs, and managing partner at a leading Turkish Patent firm (1997-2017). He has lectured for the course “patents and designs” to engineering departments at Uludag University as a guest teacher for seven years (2001-2007).

Ersin is the author of many articles on the Turkish IP system in several domestic and foreign newspapers and magazines, and a book in Turkish, titled “Understanding Patents For Engineers (in Turkish in 2006)” and has attended more than a hundred seminars as a speaker so far.

Professional Affiliations

As an active member of Licensing Executives Society International, he served as the founding president of LES-Turkey (2010-2013) and a board member (2014-2018) there. Besides, Ersin was one of the founding members of AIPPI Turkey (2010).

Apart from his membership at European Patent Institute (EPI), he was also a member of some other international IP associations such as AIPPI, JIPA, MARQUES, INTA, and CIOPORA till 2017.
